Things to do Etna Excursion to the Summit Craters

Starting from Rifugio Sapienza, which is located on the southern slope at an altitude of 1900 meters, you will take the cable car that will take you up to an altitude of about 2500 meters. From there, you will begin your trek, passing through the 2001 lava flow, climbing up a lava flow channel, and arriving at the Barbagallo Craters that were formed during the great and historic "perfect" eruption of 2002/2003 Before your eyes, you will admire the full grandeur of the active summit craters, which have magnificent colors and incessant fumaroles of water vapor and gas. Having made a stop above these striking craters, you will walk along its rim before starting the fun descent on one of the sandy sides in the direction of the spectacular "Valle del Bove" (ancient caldera). After admiring it you will continue the descent until you return to an altitude of 2500, the point from which you will take the cable car back to the starting point.
