Things to do Essential Free Tour of Sintra

Olá! Join this walk, in which we will visit the town and gardens of Sintra, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will walk through its medieval streets and discover the place where the Portuguese royalty decided to place the summer court. All this at the foot of the security of the Castelo dos mouros. Palaces and castles seem to spring from the mountain, and these years later will dazzle poets of the stature of the famous Lord Byron. We will follow in his footsteps and on this walk we will visit: Vila de Sintra, with its famous sweets, the Queijadas and the travesseiros. In front of Palacio da Vila, I will tell you about the kings and queens that inhabited it and how the history of Portugal and the world changed from those rooms. Once outside the village, we will go in search of the palaces that populate the mountains, and we will talk about the perhaps most famous, Palacio da pena. Passing by one that is closer to us in time and the fifth of the Regaleira is equally interesting. El freetour está bien organizado, es fácil de seguir el ritmo para personas mayores y se ven puntos más importantes de Sintra. Para mí algo me falto algo más de explicaciones de Sintra de su porque y de como fue evolucionando la ciudad, los entresijos y las cosas que no puedes leer el Internet, quizás algo falta de chispa. Pero es una opinión personal, ya que me gusta la historia y deseo de un guía que profundice más. Por lo demás muy recomendable.

“Thoroughly Recommend!”

I took the Sintra Walking Tour with Christina, who was very informative and interesting and explained things that were not obvious, like how houses are marked if they are for holiday lets and why some have been restored and some have not. She allowed us a comfort break where we could try the local pastries (delicious) and how to get to the Pina Palace and other attractions without being ripped off. I am just sorry I couldn't complete the tour with her as I had booked the Palace for the 2pm time slot. I think the walk should start earlier, at 10am if possible, to allow more time in the afternoon for visits.

Cristina clearly loves her job and is particularly good at it. She loves Sintra and has seen it through all the changes over the last 50 years. She has such a depth of local knowledge and truly cares about this place, it's growth and preservation. She is personable, hilarious, interesting, and engaging. She is responsible and always looking out for everyone's safety. My brother and I learned so much through the lens of her storytelling. She has clearly worked her interpretation of the area and the history in order to ensure everyone gets as much out of the tour as possible. I highly suggest that everyone who comes to Sintra take her tour before you venture out into Sintra on your own. We were dismayed yet understanding of the fire hazard closures, but she singlehandedly left us feeling like we have already experienced the best that Sintra has to offer through the kindness and passion of one woman. Thanks again Cristina for a wonderful experience!

“Very exciting & informative! ”

We spontaneously booked this walking tour in our way to Sintra as we noticed that the parks and the castles would all be closed due to wildfire-risk. It was the best decision we could have made! The tour was filled with interesting facts about Sintra and we learned so much about Portugal and its history. Our tour guide Christina is a wonderful person with a great energy and lots of exciting stories. We absolutely loved it and would recommend it to everyone! Very nice guide, very empatic. I would add sone more technical information like more history dates, all palaces, anthow very usefull for a day. I would add even at the beginning of rhe trip, instead of at the end, about the reservation needs for sone palaces, otherwise there is the risk of not finding a place and /or a time to enter in tue same day.
