Things to do UNESCO Geopark Volcano Watching & Cloud Forest in Sao Roque do Pico

The trail begins on a side track near the 'Estrada Transversal.' Once near the volcanic Cones that gave rise to 'Mistério da Prainha,' the longest historical eruption in Azorean History, we will be walking on lava grounds, a mixture of ‘a‘ā and 'pahoehoe' lava types. This is a very rich mountain habitat, covered by a low mountain endemic Laurissilva called 'Cloud Forest.' A particular note for the several species of endemic lichens and native Avifauna.
