Things to do Free Tour of the Vatican Surroundings

We will start in the vicinity of the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini to move towards the bridge and Castel Sant'Angelo, two key areas to understand the historical evolution of this area of Rome. Along the walk we will learn about the various uses of the castle, its relationship with the Tiber River and the events that marked its transformation over the centuries. Our visit continues along the Passetto, an elevated corridor full of decisive episodes, and then we will enter the Borgo district, a network of streets that preserves the memory of pilgrims, artisans and travelers. In this environment we will analyze urban details, symbols and little obvious elements that help to interpret the daily life and beliefs of the past. We will also visit the Church of Santa Maria in Traspontina before ending at the Vatican, discovering the origin of Via della Conciliazione and the historical evolution of St. Peter's Square and the Basilica as the closing of a tour full of history and urban transformation.
