A tour to discover the architecture and engineering that gave birth to the oil region of Cutral Có and Plaza Huincul, pillars of hydrocarbon development in the Argentine Patagonia.
On this tour you will discover the solid industrial architecture and pragmatic engineering that made possible the birth of the oil region in Patagonia. We will walk among historic buildings of the old "industrial city": workers' neighborhood, community spaces, church, school, sports fields, workshops, warehouses, housing and hierarchical structures. Each one is a silent testimony of the beginning of the hydrocarbon activity in 1918, key for Argentina to become today a global exporter of gas and oil.
You will also learn about the vestiges of the English railway engineering that supported the oil development in the middle of the "Patagonian desert".
I will explain how the search for the precious "black gold" shaped the social identity of Cutral Có and Plaza Huincul, giving rise to the current oil region. All this in an extreme environment: the Patagonian mountain, a region with no initial infrastructure, harsh climate and scarcity of water for workers and machines. A unique experience to understand how engineering, architecture and human perseverance transformed this territory.
