Things to do Discover Heraklion on this Free Walking Tour
The first part of this walking tour will be focused on the monuments of Heraklion. This is a city that underwent a wide variety of historical periods, from the Minoans and Greek civilizations of thousands of years ago to the Byzantine and Arab periods, up to the Venetian rule and the latest Ottoman occupation, against which Crete struggled to free itself at the beginning of the 21st century. The monuments we will see each tell us a chapter of this intricate history; we will see each one of them and explain the history it witnessed. In the second part of this tour, we will leave the tourist-filled zone and adventure ourselves into the truly local neighborhoods to experience first-hand the Cretan culture.

“Heraklion both old and new”
Our tour ended up being a private one with just my husband and I which was very nice,Luca was both knowledgeable and friendly and we had a great time discovering the history of Heraklion but also some of it’s more modern aspects. I would recommend the tour to anyone who wants to get an overview of Heraklion whilst walking around some of it’s more interesting areas.

“Ok, but would not recommend to my friends ”
Overall ok, but no real passion or interesting stories shared by the guide. We already visited the sea fort in the morning and the tour didn't add too much additional information about the island's history. The guide also told the saga about Minotaur which is probably one of the most well known legends of Greek mythology and nothing new for us. His presentation could be more fluent and engaging for the audience.

“Heraklion free tour”
We had no idea that we were the only ones on the tour, and we were really thankful that he took the time to show us around and have a fun, chill, exploration! Luca is very nice. He knows a lot of history and interesting spots in Heraklion. We learned a lot from the city and he recommended us a really good restaurant for lunch. He even gave us his number if we needed advice. We really recommend him.

“Great free tour ”
It's been a amazing free tour, not only regarding the content, but also because of the kindness and good explanations of Luca. Apart from being informed about the typical monuments and their history, he added a lot of historical interesting facts and anecdotes. It was all very well and deeply conectes with all the history of Heraklion and Crete. We are also very grateful because he has shown us typical local places (with no turists and very nice local genuine people) to have lunch and go for a drink. It was a amazing and fullfilling experience, as a group that have taken part in a lot of free tours, I totally recommend this one :)
