Our English guided visit will show you through La Candelaria, Bogota´s old town par excellence. This area was the origin of the capital and was founded back in the XVI century by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, an explorer who led the conquest of Colombia. Did you know that he baptized Colombia with the name of New Granada? He also undertook an expedition in search of El Dorado, a mythical kingdom that was supposedly located in those lands. You will hear more about this legend on our tour.
Visit the main square, Plaza Simón Bolívar, hailed by many as the “Liberator of America” where important buildings stand like the National Capitol, the Palace of Justice and the Cathedral Primada. In the same area you will also come across one of the oldest schools in all of Latin America, Colegio Mayor San Bartolomé. You will be given the chance to see the Botero Museum, one of the most important artistic collections of the continent dedicated to this peculiar Colombian artist.
We´ll also fit in some time to learn about the life of Gabriel García Márquez, one of the most important writers in the world and the life of the narcotrafficker Pablo Escobar in Bogota.
On the Bogota Free Walking Tour there will also be a chance to explore fascinating places like the Callejón del Embudo, a narrow and colourful street that has inspired thousands of artists; or the Puerta Falsa, with a smell of freshly baked goods and chocolate that is sure to lead us in and make us want to discover a little more about this minuscule restaurant located just on the front step. We´ll be waiting for you!
