Join us on this amazing free walking tour of Cork, we will learn about the history and the most emblematic points of this Irish city bathed by the River Lee. You will completely be amazed by its history.
Things to do Best of Cork Free Walking Tour
For almost three hours, we will walk through the historic center of Cork exploring part of the history of the city. Do you know who its founders were? Perhaps the importance of its port will give you a clue. We will tell you how the city has been changing over time since the 7th century, when Saint Finbar built an abbey in this area. We'll pass by places like St. Anne's Church, St. Mary and St. Anne's Cathedral, and Bishop Lucey Park. Later we will arrive at the Cathedral of San Finbar, famous for the copper angel and gold paper that decorates its facade. What will be its meaning? We will reveal it to you! Nearby we will come across Fort Elizabeth, used for more than 400 years to defend Cork from invaders. Did you know that the Vikings arrived in the city in 820 AD? At that time they built their own city on an island in the Lee River. After exploring Cork's history, we'll end the free tour at the National Monument.

Owen was an AMAZING guide. I do a lot of walking tours and find the quality varies a lot, but I highly recommend doing a tour with Owen if at all possible. He is extremely knowledgeable about Irish history and culture, and gives context to the city. He was also a generally lovely character, and you can see how much care he puts into his work. I would have loved to sit down with him for a pint!

unfortunately is difficult to score a tour that never happened. We waited for 15-20 minutes for the guide to show up. Funny, we got an email yesterday as a reminder thas the tour will take place.. no one bothered to tell us if it was cancelled..

“Best of Cork Free Walking Tour - Very bad experience”
The experience couldn't have been worse: the guide didn't turn up and nobody informed us.
For 45 minutes we tried unsuccessfully to contact the organisation by phone, message and email.
We know that unexpected circumstances can happen to anyone, but the lack of a mechanism to notify those interested who have signed up in advance seems unacceptable to me.
After this experience, we decided not to risk losing any more visiting time and cancelled the tours scheduled for other Irish cities. We have chosen another operator because we have lost confidence in your company.
This is the first time I have criticised a Wlaking Free Tour negatively, until now the experiences have been very pleasant.
It's unfortunate.
I hope you improve!

“Tour guide didn’t show up”
Unfortunately, the tour guide didn’t show up. I am sure it could have been a lovely experience but I can’t rate it since we did not receive any feedback as to why there was nobody. Several members tried to contact the guide but received no response. We waited for 30 minutes and, since there was no luck or feedback, all of us left. It’s understandable if it gets cancelled, but they could at least have told us before or answer or messages/calls.

We were only in town for a few hours (off the ship) so we just wanted an historical overview of the area.Evan kept our attention with factual accounts of key events in Cork’s history. I booked a few weeks ago a tour starting at 11am in front of Opera House in Cork
I Arrived at 10.50 and I waited until 11.20
Nobidy came. No guide no Yellow umbrella.
Perfect irisk joke. Where are the leprechauns?

Owen has been a great tour guide, taking us a bit through the history lane of Cork and the region and also knowing when to put a little refreshment stop. It felt like quite a wild walking route though, however, for the following days it helped a lot for navigating through the city! Got many good recommendations for places to visit in Cork and surrounding area.
