Things to do Free Tour Hiking in Athens: Caves of Ymittos

This hike is for you if you love mountains, sun, and wild nature. There is no dense vegetation on this route. Instead, we will discover a beautiful natural arch with a cave and the best views of Athens and the Saronic Gulf. Difficulty level – higher than medium. Suitable for active people with hiking experience. Distance – 10 km Height gain – 600 m Travel time – 5-6 hours Small groups of up to 5 people We begin our journey on a rocky and steep path that runs through dense vegetation. Highly important to have hiking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen 50+ SPF. Upon reaching a height of 550 meters above sea level, we will be rewarded with incredible views of the valleys of Mount Ymittos and a natural wonder: an impressive 15-meter-high arch formed by the collapse of a large ancient cave. Afterward, we will descend into a gorge, exploring caves and tunnels along the way. The final 3 km of the hike will be without the shade of trees, with short descents and climbs, but offering stunning views of the Saronic Gulf. At the end of the route, if you wish, we can stop at one of my favorite restaurants for coffee or lunch.
