Daniel was awesome. I got the chance to learn about all the important events during the communist regime, and heard personal stories from fellow tourists and the guide. A must do tour when you visit the city. we even visited the red flat after the tour to get a glimpse of life during communist regime.

All credit to the giude who made this tour, with his well crafted delivery and thought provoking questions. Sadly I never discovered his name but he wasthe best tour guide.

“Comunist walking tour”
Interesting and good tour!!!
But: Not very clear about the status of collaboration of Bulgatia with Nazi Germany and the handing out numbers of jews to the nazis.
I very much disliked the very bad and extremly negative discription of the roma society in Bulgaria at the end.
Such discriminating discriptions whithout differentiation on roma people does not match to a democratic country whithin a open society with the goal of eqal changes to all people and minorities. Very inhuman and unreflective view. Very important to work on this issue and perspective. Theories of diversity, critical whiteness, antirassism and eqal changes in a multiethic ethnic society should be considered.
Not all of bulgarias problems come from roma people! More or less they come mainly from the rich white bulgarian elites who like to privatise the money of the bulgarian people. Which possibilities does Bulgaria offer to poor roma people? Which are best practice examples, what is successfull, how many romas migrate and remigrate to bulgaria with money in there pockets to build good houses and live a good live those are the interessting questions that lead to good new perspectives. We always experienced Roma people as very friendly, hard working and well behaving and many as intelligent people.

“Thorough review of communism/ socialism in Bulgaria ”
My wife and I very much enjoyed our tour with Yakov. He was very well prepared and provided a well rounded approach to Communism in Bulgaria . He spoke about the politics, economics, leaders, workers, education, and family during the 1944-1989.
Kept our interest for over 2 hours.

Vasil guided us through an enthusiastic, knowledgeable tour. There was actually not so much to see, it was more a way of unwinding the history of Bulgaria over the last century. Plenty of time for questions and dialogue. Group size was good. Would highly recommend.

Very informative enjoyed. However walk is very long between stops. Also started tour officially startee in front of presidential office but meeting place was unnecessarily in palace of justice. Can meet in lenin square or square of independence instead?

Our tour guide was Dino, a local Sofian, and he was excellent. He explain this part of history in a simple and direct way, byhighlighting the most important details, and by giving an informative overview of the communism regime in Bulgaria. A completely different tour that I’d recommend to everyone visiting Sofia.

“Decent tour but nothing to rave about. ”
While tour did present some info about communism in Sofia or the country, what I got the most out of it was showing me a few unknown sights I did not know about like entrance to secret police etc. Info was ok, but nothing to rave about. At one point, shared location where we were going, told us something about it and when we got there nothing else more was shared about location and how it got to it and how connected to communism which was a disappointment. The free Sofia tour, which I took earlier that day, said more about that location and I learned more than this one which was a paid one. While not a super expensive one, compared to free Sofia tour (and guide), did not feel worth what paid for it. Still ok, so gave it 3 stars.

“Great Tour!”
The first thing I do when I visit a new city is to book a Free Walking Tour. I did in Sofia but I had the feeling it was not enough so I took the communist era tour which costs close nothing (11€ for a 3 hour tour). It’s one of the greatest tours I had ever. Our young guide -unfortunately I don’t know his name- was knowledgeable, passionate and extremely interesting. We were a small group (5 people) and we learned a lot about communism in Sofia but also in Bulgaria. Highly recommended.
