Cajas National Park Full Day Trip

On this tour we will leave early in the morning (8:30am) and drive approximately 1 hour until we reach Cajas National Park, a very important lake system located west of the city of Cuenca. (MEDIUM DIFFICULTY LEVEL)

We will take a walk in the Toreadora lagoon sector (3970 masl) for around 2h00 to 2h30, admiring the Andean highlands. The guide will give you a lot of information regarding the typical vegetation of this ecosystem (many of them with fabulous medicinal uses), some birds will be able to be identified, we will visit a fantastic Polylepis forest (locally called "paper tree") And above all, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery taking lots of pictures.

After this walk we will go to a local restaurant so that those who want can have lunch and try the delicious trout (typical dish of this area). Optional for those who want it.

Then, we will go by car to the lower part of the park, we will go around the Llaviuco lagoon (3200 masl), in this place the ecosystem is totally different, it is called high Andean montane forest. With luck we will be able to admire some important birds of these forests (Andean guan, Andean rufous duck, masked trogon, etc. and with much more luck we could see the beautiful Andean toucan.
