Things to do Walk Like a Monk in Medieval Cappadocia: Night Hiking Tour

Journey begins in Meskendir Valley and continues along ancient paths into Red and Rose Valleys, an area once shaped by monks, hermits, and small Christian communities. Along the way, we will walk through dramatic rock formations, narrow passages and old trails carved into the volcanic landscape. Red Valley was one of Cappadocia’s important monastic areas. Hidden among the cliffs are rock-cut churches, chapels, monk cells, monasteries, pigeon houses and forgotten spaces that are easy to miss without knowing where to look. We will leave the main paths several times to discover some of these hidden places and talk about how people lived, worshipped and found solitude here centuries ago. Continuing into Rose Valley, we follow an old route surrounded by some of Cappadocia’s most beautiful geological formations. Depending on our route, we will explore remarkable rock-cut churches such as Ayvalı Church and the Church of the Three Crosses. It is a journey through the landscape, stories and spiritual world of medieval Cappadocia walking the same paths once used by monks centuries ago.
