Explore Tartu’s soul on an alternative city tour. Wander through vibrant street art in Karlova and Suppilinn while uncovering Estonia's digital secrets and local lifestyle. Discover the true character of this unique cultural capital!
This is a perfect relaxing tour with less history. I will tell my favourite stories, show favourite buildings (architecture in the 1920s), street art outside the city centre, and we'll talk about digitalisation of the 1990s and modern life, culture, language, and education. Walk by Tartu City Library to explore a few pieces of graffiti by Edward von Longus and hear about famous Estonian book authors and Estonian education. Visit the Botanical Garden to talk about Estonians and their love for nature. Explore some fun statistics and interesting love for stones (nothing to do with "stone" part in Estonia's name!).
I'll tell about Estonia's recovery in the 1990s and massive digitalisation, which helped Estonia advance fast, and learn about the great leader Lennart Meri. We'll visit the "Freedom" Gallery and talk a bit about street art in Tartu. Explore the areas of Suppilinn, Tahtvere, Vaksali, and Karlova to see Art Nouveau buildings from 1900-1920s and their communities (e.g. student and "secret" societies).
The tour ends in an ex-Soviet factory that became an artsy area, a printing museum home, and a good lunch-dinner spot!
