Overall, the tour was ok. In the beginning, it was nice, Mohamed shared with us a little history of Tangier. He took us around the Old Medina which was useful. During the walk, he also took us to 2 shops. I didn't bother to go in the first one but in the second shop, we were seated around this man who shared with us the products he sells.
BEWARE of that shop if Mohamed takes you! It was a complete SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted to buy one perfume soap and the man said if you buy 1 it's 50, if you buy 2 you get 1 for free. How do you define 50 (dirhams or euros) if you are in Morocco??? You would know it's 50 euros if he specifies euros. So I insisted on getting 1, and he quickly added 1 more to my bag and said I will charge you 20 (I still assume it's in dirhams)
And when it comes to payment, I gave his staff at the cashdesk 200 Dirhams, expecting some change which didn't happen. My husband was fuming when I told him what I paid, and he returned the product and demanded back for the money. The shop wasn't fancy-looking, it was just an old run-down shop.
When everyone finished purchasing their products, the man approached my husband and asked why did he not buy the product in the end, my husband said it was too expensive. And the man replied saying, don't you have to pay for the visits?
We didn't know that this FREE TOUR we were expected to pay this man working in this shop some money? Shouldn't he be having an agreement with Mohamed himself??? Isn't this FREE TOUR something that we tip however we feel comfortable with the tour guide???
In the end, we bought the same perfume soap (half the size) for 10 dirhams from another shop. So to say, IT WAS A COMPLETE SCAM. BEWARE!!!
