Things to do Tour of Communism and the Antiatomic Bunker

Immerse yourself in the history of Prague under communist rule with a tour that explores events and landmarks from some of the darkest years in the country's contemporary history. We will tell the story of how the Communist Party seized power during the 1948 coup d'état, visit the Central Post Office Building, and retrace the pivotal moments of the Prague Spring, an attempt at reform stifled by repression. We will make a stop at the monument dedicated to Jan Palach and Jan Zajic, two young men who sacrificed themselves for freedom, and talk about the Velvet Revolution, which led Prague to democracy in 1989. In front of the Melantrich Hotel building, we will remember the speech of Václav Havel, revolutionary leader and future president. The tour culminates with a visit to the Antiatomic Bunker of the Jalta Hotel, once the headquarters of the Communist secret police (StB), for an immersion in the climate of suspicion and control of the time. A touching journey into the Prague of the past to understand its struggle for freedom and the story of the heroes who made it possible.
