Things to do Discover Pogradec's History and Hidden Gems

Golik Bridge is located 40 km from the city of Pogradec, on the Shkumbin River, in Golik village. It is 17 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 10 meters high. It is a masterpiece of the ancient road "Via Egnatia." Built in the second century, it is classified as a first-class cultural monument. The Illyrian Tombs of Selca are located near the town of Pogradec. On the right bank of the Shkumbin River, at an elevation of 1,040 meters above sea level, lie the remains of the ancient city of Pelion and its accompanying necropolis. The Roman Via Egnatia passed nearby on its route to Constantinople. While traces of human activity date back to Neolithic times, the settlement itself spans the Iron Age through the Illyrian urban period. The Lin Peninsula in Pogradec, Albania, is one of the oldest settlements in Europe, with pile dwellings dating back over 8,500 years. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Lake Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the peninsula offers a blend of history and natural splendor. Visitors can explore the Paleochristian basilica and its remarkably preserved mosaics, as well as the unique juxtaposition of ancient ruins and communist-era bunkers.
