Step into an alternate Mpika, where the familiar rhythms of Northern Province blend effortlessly with ancient lore and subtle magic. Your walking tour begins at the edge of the Great North Road, but this is not the Mpika you know—here, the morning mist carries shimmering flecks of light, drifting above the ground like tiny fire spirits guiding travelers toward hidden places.
As you enter the Emerald Passage, a narrow footpath woven between giant miombo trees, the forest hum deepens. Locals say the humming comes from the roots themselves, old as the first stories of Bemba ancestors. Every few meters, tree bark shifts color—from burnished copper to deep emerald—as if reacting to your presence. Small, quick-footed creatures with glowing tails dart between the branches. They are called lumwiji, harmless guardians of the path who appear only to those with good intentions.
