Things to do Discover Kaman Kalehoyuk and the Japanese Garden

In the heart of Central Anatolia lies a hidden harmony, where the ancient soils of Kalehöyük meet the stillness of the Japanese garden. We begin at the Mikasanomiya Memorial Garden, a peaceful Japanese garden gifted by Prince Mikasa, symbolizing the lasting friendship between Japan and Turkey. The stone paths, still ponds, and manicured trees echo a spirit of reflection far from the tourist crowds. Right next to the garden, we visit the Kaman Kalehöyük Archaeological Museum, which houses rare artifacts from as far back as 4,000 years ago. Inside, you’ll encounter Bronze Age weapons, Hittite seals, Phrygian pottery, Roman coins, and many more, all unearthed from the nearby Kalehöyük mound. Our final stop is the Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology, where East and West weave stories into the same soil. Founded by the Japanese Middle East Courses and still operated in collaboration with Turkish Archaeologists, this center represents international cooperation and deep respect for the past. Whether you're drawn by the ruins or the raked gravel, this is a walk where archaeology meets Zen, and where the echoes of Japan in Anatolia still linger in the breeze.
