Kalamata Old Town: Flavors History and Local Life

Our meeting spot is just outside the Archaeological Museum of Messenia, in the heart of the old town. During our walk, we will visit the Holy Mary Central Church, just a few meters from the castle walls, the monastery famous for its silky handkerchief production, the Municipal Conservatory, and through narrow old streets, we will enter the heart of the central local products market. The aromas of extra virgin olive oil, various types of olives, fresh coffee, wild oregano and tea, fresh fish, wild mushrooms, pasteli, and grilled meat blend together to create a unique sensory experience that will immerse us in the city's way of life.
