Things to do Free Tour of Istanbul: Balat and Fener, Minorities, and the House of Colors
In the 15th century, two decisive events took place in Balat-Fener: the Ottoman conquest of the city and the subsequent resettlement of its Christian inhabitants outside the city walls, and, a few years later, the expulsion of the Jews from the Iberian Peninsula. These two events, so far apart in time, laid the foundation for what is now Istanbul’s most bohemian and vibrant neighborhood. We’ll wander its steeply sloping streets, marvel at the colors that have become its hallmark, and learn a little more about the history of other religions and peoples who were able to live together in harmony for centuries—and who left their lasting legacy in these streets. Notes: Reservations for 6 or more people—whether in a single booking or multiple bookings—require payment of €10 per participant. Recommendations: Wear comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for entering Christian places of worship.

The tour was very nice, the guide Jan explained many things about the turkey and about the neighborhoods relating history and the specific aspects of religion regarding this area of istanbul. Jan is very polite and humble guy! I recommend!

“Worth your time ”
Jan was a lovely guide and I appreciated his insights into a couple of Istanbul’s historical neighborhoods that I otherwise wouldn’t have explored or even known about. He’s a bit of a history buff and so has a lot of knowledge on the history of the area and Istanbul itself (and Constantinople before that). Well worth a few hours of your time and a tip as a thank you to Jan.

“Balat and Ferner”
Tour starts with a tram ride and you habe to buy a ticket. Then the tour starts in Ferner. The guide gabe a historical introduction about Constantinopel and Istanbul. There are two church stops and one outside a synagogue. Then you stroll through the streets of Balat and Ferner. A nother stop is at a high scool, witch was a nice historical building. A pluspoint woukd have beem, if the guide wolud have told at the beginning, how long the tour apprimatly will last. The tour lenght eas about 2,5 -3 hours.

Mar, la guía muy profesional, se nota que le apasiona la historia, pero bajo mi punto de vista el tour ha estado demasiado enfocado en la historia de Turquía y me ha faltado mucho más callejear por los barrios y conocer cosas curiosas de los mismos y no tanta historia detallada

Me resultó una visita muy interesante. Mar, la guía, sabía mucho sobre la historia de Estambul y sus explicaciones me ayudaron mucho a entender mejor la historia del país. Los barrios en sí para mí no fueron muy llamativos, pero vimos algunos edificios interesantes que me ayudaron a entender la sociedad e historia de Estambul. Recomiendo la visita para complementar otras visitas más turísticas.

“Entre colores e historia”
Nos encantó este tour. Los edificios no hablan, pero Mar nos habla muy bien por ellos.
Es un tour para conocer una parte distinta de Estambul, una de la que no teníamos ni idea.
Podríamos haberlo hecho solos? Tal vez, pero no nos llevaríamos más que bellas fotos. En cambio nos vamos recargados de información y ganas de seguir conociendo y aprendiendo.

El tour me ha sorprendido. No esperaba tanta historia en ese barrio. Había visto las casas de colores pero hay mucho mas, no me lo esperaba. La guía es muy maja, se explica de maravilla y esta muy buen documentada. Recomiendo este tour.
