Things to do Gouda: The Medieval City and its Secrets

Gouda, located just a few minutes from Rotterdam or The Hague, is a charming Dutch city that looks like something out of a fairy tale. In just 1.30 hours, you can explore its most emblematic corners in an authentic tour full of curiosities. We start at the imposing Stadhuis, a magnificent example of medieval architecture. From there, we stroll through the Markt square, known for its Cheese Market, held every Thursday, one of the most traditional events in the region. We visited the Waag, a former abbey and symbol of Gouda's commercial history, and the Sint Janskerk, the longest church in the country, famous for its unique stained glass windows. In addition, Gouda is famous for its Gouda cheese and Stroopwafels, delicious Dutch cookies that you can enjoy in its streets. The Gouda Museum offers more about its history, cheese and craftsmanship. A curious fact is that Erasmus of Rotterdam studied here, leaving a lasting cultural legacy. Gouda is more than cheese and medieval architecture, it is a place with character, history and soul, perfect for a getaway. From Rotterdam, the train (direction Utrecht or Alphen a/d Rijn) arrives in 20 minutes, and from The Hague, in about 25 minutes, with frequent departures.
