Things to do Free Walking Tour - Unveiling the Treasures of a UNESCO Gem

This tour is focused on the Cultural Heritage of Berat, a city of 2400 years of age. Hence, it has a very rich history. In our tour, filled with smiles, energy, and entertainment, we will uncover the rich tapestry of this city's iconic landmarks, the UNESCO-listed Berat Quarters, and the mesmerizing Byzantine churches overflowing with history and culture. Our meeting point will be at the center of the city, at the entrance of the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Demetrius. Next, we will head towards the old part of the city, which is a complex of three quarters: the Castle, Mangalemi, and Gorica. Then, we will pass through a cobbled path to get to the Castle, which is the most beautiful and antique part of the tour. The highlights of our tour will be: • The Center of Berat • The Orthodox Cathedral of St. Demetrius • The main boulevard • The bridge between Mangalemi and Gorica • The Castle • Saint Mary of Vlaherna church • Holy Trinity Church • The White mosque • The Red mosque • The City Point of View After two hours, we will end the tour at the City Point of View.

We had an amazing time on our tour. We have done many walking tours before and this was the best tour we have had to date. Our guide Vasil was the best and we learned so much about the history of the city and the country. Vasil was very knowledgeable and very entertaining at the same time. We really enjoyed our walking tour of Berat with Vasil. Knowledgeable about his city's history and culture. I was amazed by Vasil ability of English. Thought he was raised in the US but he is just so skillful with language. Since Vasil has an American accent, it's very easy to follow for us who had been living in Canada previously. He has very warm personality and welcoming. Anyway, we met another Dutch couple the night after we did our walking tour and recommended this app and Vasil for a Berat walking tour.

“Vasill is the best! ”

Vasil seemed to know everything about his town, and everyone in it! When we got to the assembly point he was chatting with the priest, and on the way waved at his acquaintances. It gave a cosy small-town feeling. When we reached the church at the castle defaced in communist times, it was locked when the day shift caretaker had gone home early, so Vasil simply dialed up the evening man who graciously came and opened up for us. Thank you Vasil for an unforgettable day!
