Things to do Discover Historic Berat on a Free Walking Tour

Our tour begins at the New Bridge, a perfect starting point to introduce the charm of Berat’s two iconic neighborhoods, Mangalem and Gorica, separated by the Osum River and connected by the historic Gorica Bridge, which we’ll talk about in more detail. From there, we’ll walk through the cobbled streets of the city, surrounded by Ottoman-style architecture, and visit two important religious landmarks that face each other: the Orthodox Cathedral and the Lead Mosque, a beautiful symbol of interfaith harmony in Berat. As we head toward the castle, we’ll first pass by the King’s Mosque and the Halveti Tekke, two spiritual landmarks standing side by side, offering a serene and reflective atmosphere. The uphill walk to the castle takes about 20–30 minutes. Once inside, we’ll explore true historical gems: the Church of the Holy Trinity, the White Mosque, the Acropolis, the Red Mosque, and of course, Tabja, the castle’s famous viewpoint with a breathtaking panorama over the city.
