On this tour, we’ll explore Durres's history, starting with the newest fort, the Ottoman fortress from 1501. We’ll begin at Torra Veneziane to learn about the city’s seafront history. Then, we’ll see the ancient walls of Emperor Anastas in the Kala neighborhood. Along Epidamn Boulevard, we’ll see how the city developed, leading to the Port and City Square construction in the 1930s. We’ll also visit religious buildings in the castle area and discuss their past and present roles in the community. Finally, we’ll explore the Amphitheater of Durres, its surrounding houses, and the history of excavations there, from the earliest discoveries to current plans for research and preservation.
