St. George Monastery & Communist Bunkers Walking Tour

The day starts in Saranda at 9:00 AM with departure to the starting point of the walking tour. St. George Monastery, a unique monastery known for its strategic location atop a hill, is located 7 km from Saranda. Walking time: 30 minutes. Visit the monastery's interior and learn more about its history. Take time for photos. We continue our walk to the Communist bunkers, which are now used by locals for various purposes. Inside the bunkers, you’ll find rules and instructions for using heavy artillery, still visible on the walls. The site offers views of Corfu Island, a key vantage point in case of a sea or air attack. This is an engaging walk through nature and history, offering breathtaking views of the area, the Ionian Sea, Butrint Lake, Saranda City, and Corfu Island.
