Things to do Free Tour in San Francisco

This is the original Free SF Tour that started in October 2015 as a local initiative to give people an opportunity to express their love for San Francisco. The Free SF Tour runs every day at 10 am, starting at Union Square at the corner of Post and Powell streets. It's the perfect introduction to the City by the Bay, and it's probably the one tour you don't want to be missing when in town. Useful insider tips are given by the guides both in person and with the Manual Of the City - a comprehensive guide of local tips and tricks, what to do, where to eat and drink, and many more - emailed to everybody in attendance. The free walking tour covers most of downtown San Francisco: Union Square, Chinatown, Financial District, and Embarcadero. We’d be telling stories about places, people, historical events, and current affairs; buried ships under the buildings, influential women, gold diggers, and earthquakes. We talk about how present-day San Francisco was shaped by the Gold Rush, the Civil Rights movements, the Silicone Valley, and the contribution of different peoples to the city's unique character.

“Amazing tour of San Francisco and even more 5out of 5”

I had the time of my life in this tour. Our guide was very fun and knowledgable. We got a very good introduction about the pre San Francisco time, about the gold rush, about the war with Mexico and all. I have learned so much about the history of San francisco and California, about important figures from the past, fun facts but also interesting information. I feel I got so very much from this 2 hour tour that I really wanted to spend the full day with our gude just walking around and fining out even more. We covered a really good portion of the city and walked about 2.5 h but it all seemed very simple that we did not even see it "hard" even with the rather hilly terrain. I fully recommend it!!!

“Overall fun and informative insight of the city”

Overall a great introductory to the history of the city. The intro was a little lengthy, 30 minutes in and we're still in the starting point. Will be great to break the info into smaller chunks, and move along with the walk.

“More than just a tour”

I took this tour on 15 Oct 24 and was very happy I did so! Vicki managed to take us through some key moments of the history of the city, making the stories entertaining and always checking in with us to see if there's any questions. The checkpoints she chose are very well thought out, there is a bathroom break in between and even some sweet surprises along the way. She also stayed after the tour and gave awesome recommendations for good places to eat. I would definitely recommend this tour!

“Exceeded Expectations ”

This was our first free tour, and we stumbled across it as I was looking for a short walking tour that started in the morning before we had to leave SF. It was close to our hotel, so no reason to pass it up. Filip was an outstanding guide. He was so knowledgeable and had a great story telling technique. He was very friendly and welcoming, and spoke like a natural guide and native San Franciscan. The timing was definitely longer than two hours, so try to keep your plans flexible to maximize the time on this tour. Highly recommended!
