Come and discover the must-see sites of the city shaped by the Roman emperor Augustus, who fell in love with Nîmes before the start of his reign, giving it its beauty and prestige.
1) Let's stroll through the Jardins de la Fontaine, where a divine spring once flowed. This is where it all began. 2) Climb the Tour Magne, a breathtaking vestige that dominates the city. 3) Cross the city center, its welcoming squares, and pedestrian streets, where crocodiles, eternal symbols of Nîmes, are omnipresent. 4) The Porte Auguste, a monumental Roman wall built by Augustus to surround the city, as if the emperor had wanted to embrace his betrothed. 5) Then head for the Maison Carrée, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since September 2023, even though it's not square at all! 6) Take a detour to the Castellum Aquae, which received and distributed water transported by a 50 km-long Roman aqueduct, of which the Pont du Gard is a spectacular vestige. 7) Join us at the Arena to experience the atmosphere of the mythical gladiator fights. Like Auguste, you'll fall under the spell of Nîmes on this sporty (wear shoes!) and instructive (concentrate!) walk. But don't worry, this free 2-hour walk will be above all a light-hearted stroll in which good humor will serve as your compass.
