Things to do Walking Free Tour: Atomic Bomb Hypocentre Park & Nagasaki Peace Park

Our journey begins at the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Park, the exact point beneath where the atomic bomb exploded about 500 meters above Nagasaki at 11:02 a.m. on August 9, 1945. Here, you'll discover what happened in the moments that changed the city forever. Next, we visit the preserved ruins of Urakami Cathedral, once the largest Christian church in East Asia. The remains stand as a powerful symbol of tragedy, faith, and resilience. We then explore the area beneath the hypocenter, learning how the blast, heat, and radiation devastated everything nearby. Along the way, we'll see important memorials and a preserved air-raid shelter, each sharing stories of loss, survival, and hope. Our walk continues through Peace Park, home to monuments donated by countries around the world promoting peace and a nuclear-free future. We'll visit the Peace Bell, the iconic Peace Statue, and end at the Fountain of Peace, built in memory of victims who suffered from extreme thirst after the bombing. Please Note: Admission to the Atomic Bomb Museum is 100 yen per person. The museum ticket is not included in this free walking tour.
