Discover Palatul Culture, Teatrul Național, and many more must-sees of historic Iași on this wonderful and unique walking free tour with a local guide.
Things to do Essential Iasi Free Tour
The walking tour includes an introduction to 10 iconic sites in the historic center of Iași, along with recommendations for your stay (where to eat, drink, and go out), visiting hours for attractions, and other useful tips. Highlights include Union Square, Miron Costin Square, the National Theater & Opera, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Moldavia, the Roman Catholic Diocese, the Three Hierarchs Monastery, and the Palace of Culture (end point). The tours are led by volunteers, including certified tour guides, students, and graduates of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, all passionate about geography, architecture, and history. This is a tip-based activity. Group size is usually 5–10 people, offering a great opportunity to meet other travelers. For large groups, different times or dates, or tours in other languages (Romanian, French, Italian), please contact us to arrange a private tour. PS. If you book and later decide not to attend, please cancel your booking. We are charged for every guest, even if they do not show up.

I absolutely recommend this tour. The initiative of having this kind of guided tours is a very good one! There aren't many for Iasi, which is a pity, as the city and it's treasures are worth being discovered. Our guide was Alexandra, a very lovely lady, who provided us with a lot of info and trivia about the main interest points between Piata Unirii and the Palace. It would would be great if in the future we could take advantage of other guided tours in other parts of the city (Copou, Pacurari, Salaries, Rapa Galbena etc)

I just got back to the center of the city from the botanical gardens, one of the spots suggested by the guide.
I'm a big fan of walking tours. They provide one a framework and the essentials for further exploration. And this tour went well beyond expectations. The guide provided not only the history of the city but also personal recommendations and insights, information born from love for the city and a desire to impart that feeling to those on the tour. “They bailed out on me”
7’ before the scheduled start of the tour I received a message that they had to cancel it due to unforeseen circumstances. Seemed like I was the only participant, which might have had something to do with it. They did suggest to postpone it to the next day, but that was of little comfort to me, especially because I could have used one or two extra hours of sleep.
This is all very unprofessional and disappointing. I prefer to discover places that aren’t overrun by tourists & meanwhile do my share to help the local economy. I’m aware I cannot expect the same amount of tourist infrastructure in Iasi as in way more popular cities, but here it seems all the more important that visitors don’t end up in a disappointing situation like I ended up in.
In their defense, they apologized twice.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on the free walking tour in Iași with our guide Lisa. Her English was exceptional - clear, fluent, and easy to understand throughout the entire tour.
Lisa was incredibly kind and helpful, demonstrating extensive and deep knowledge of all the historical sites and attractions we visited. She clearly has a genuine passion for the city and its rich history, which made the experience even more engaging.
What impressed us most was how well Lisa tailored the tour to our group. The route, pace, and explanations were perfectly adapted to the participants, and we felt completely comfortable asking questions whenever we were curious about something. She created a welcoming atmosphere that encouraged interaction and learning.
This tour truly enriched our understanding of Iași and left us with unforgettable memories of this beautiful Romanian city. The experience was both educational and enjoyable, giving us insights we never would have discovered on our own.

“A surprisingly interesting tour”
If you're looking for a few hours of experience in the city this is the best way to go. An easy going tour with lots of history, but not too overwhelming with boring details. All the main and side attractions are there and be sure to ask for specific interests as you can find some hidden gems from the guide(s). Was on a tour with Lisa and had a great day.

“Leider nur bedingt zu empfehlen ”
Unser Guide war überaus freundlich, wusste viel und hat uns anfangs auch einbezogen und gefragt. Auf unseren Wunsch, dass die Tour nur 2 und nicht 2,5 Std. geht, ist er leider nicht eingegangen bzw. wollte er machen, hat er aber nicht. Es hat super spannend begonnen, nur leider fehlte der rote Faden. Er ist in den Zeitangaben sehr hin und her gesprungen und hat leider nur wenig Zusammenhänge hergestellt. Anfangs war er offen für Fragen und Gespräche, später hat er uns nur noch irgendwelche Fakten erzählt. Die Definition der Worte "Fun Fact" sollte er auch noch einmal googeln. ;-) Er war nett, muss aber noch lernen mit der Gruppe zu interagieren. Schade.

We learned so much in such a short time. Our guide, Teodora managed to guide us through this spectacular city and give us details about things we've never heard of. In 2 and a half hours we navigated the city at a good pace, had such a great time with a great guide that could explain so everyone could understand, recommended us places we should visit (food places, monumental places, churches) in the rest of the time. Teodora told us about the history of each place and knew details that only a experienced person could, she's such a friendly and free spirit. Our experience was unique and we wish to come back sometime.

Interesting tour, learned a lot but guide seemed to side track quite often. When asking questions guide also didnt seem to be sure. She defibtely knew a lot but there was details that didn't really add up. Also felt tour could have been more walking and less talking, like make it more compact. Too much nonsense we didn't really need to know.

“AMAZING Tour! ”
This was by far the best walking tour we did in all of our travels of Romania! Mihai was extremely knowledgeable and very engaging and presented a side of Romania that I doubt can be found anywhere else. Absolutely 10/10!

“Free tour with cosmin”
The tour was great. Cosmin knew absolutely everything about the city! He gave me a lot of tips about the city (restaurants, shops, parks..) to visit.
It was such a sunny day and I really enjoyed the experience.

“Awesome”
We had our tour with Daniela and everything was fantastic! She explained everything with lot of details, we learned a lot about the history and curiosities of the city and all thar she talked about was really interesting. I have been in the city for 6 month now and I discover lot of new things thanks to her. Furthermore, she didn't mind about that it was raining and she still was super nice and she did her job very good. So, thank you very much!!

“No show”
I love the chance to have taken the tour.
However the guide was a no show, and freetour.com haven't replied to my emails, instead asking me to review the tour I didn't get. Was there 10 mins early as requested, and waited 15 mins.
See other people have has this issue with guides being 30 mins late.
Maybe freetour.com should look into their association with such unreliable guides?

“Tour Guide Late”
The tour guide was 30 minutes late to the tour. The content was okay, but was more of a description of what was in front of you, lacking in background and context.

“IASI Essential Tour”
We had a wonderful afternoon with Maria who shared her love of IASI with us!
She was very knowledgeable and interesting with lots of stories about the history and cultural background of Iasi.
We thoroughly enjoyed it and would really recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iasi.

“Evening Tour ”
Mihai provided an excellent tour of central Iasi. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and anxious to share information about his city. His background in education makes him a good presenter. I recommend this tour as a very good introduction to the history and culture of Iasi.

“Fantastic Tour with Mihai”
Local tour guide and teacher, Mihai gave me and a small group an an insightful and funny tour of the interesting city of Iasi. I would definitely recommend to anyone with a few spare hours in Iasi.
