Lake Parón, located at 4200 meters above sea level, is the largest lake in the Cordillera Blanca in the Peruvian Andes, 32 km east of Caraz. Nestled among snow-capped peaks, it is especially surrounded by Pyramid Peak (5885m)
Parón Lake, formed as a natural reservoir, has a catchment area of 44.3 km². It is 3.7 km long from east to west and has an average width of 700 meters from north to south. Its original depth was about 75 meters, but today, the level has dropped by 15 meters to prevent the collapse of the moraine. The lake lies within the borders of Huascarán National Park.
It’s a popular day hike for those acclimatizing, and camping is possible on both the west and east shores. The itinerary includes departing from Huaraz in a minibus for a direct drive to the lake. After arriving, you’ll hike up to the Huandoy Moraine camp, offering a stunning viewpoint of the lake for great photos. Afterward, we’ll return to the transfer, head to the entrance of the valley for lunch at a local restaurant, and stop briefly at Plaza de Armas in Caraz. Finally, we’ll return directly to Huaraz by 6 PM.
