Things to do Ancient Old Town Tour of Dubrovnik
For 450 years, aristocratic city-state Republic of Dubrovnik held independence (14th-19th cent.) between big and powerful rivals and natural disasters in very turbulent European medieval time. Old Town was the capital of the Dubrovnik Republic, a center of once small size but significant maritime power. Today the Old Town of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a location that is almost like a big open museum where time almost stopped for centuries. Surrounded with ancient 2 km ditched city walls with numerous towers and forts. It really takes you back to an old, forgotten time. Walking route: From the City gates of Pile (west entrance), through a stone bridge with a wooden suspension below the tower, via main street Stradun (Placa) to the City gates Ploče (east entrance) and few little streets by side. Everything was well organized and informative. The only minor difficulty we had was locating the meeting point at the start. Overall, it was an excellent experience that I would gladly recommend.

“Good introduction ”
This was an excellent introduction to the rich history of Dubrovnik, covering everything from its pre-Roman origins to the pre-modern era. We walked through the famous Stradun (main street), learning about the city’s important buildings and the different historical periods they represent.
The meet up location is not accurate!
Along the way, our guide pointed out fascinating details — like the optical illusion at the midpoint of the street — and explained the mix of architectural styles, even drawing parallels with the bridges featured on euro banknotes. We also visited the Cathedral, where we learned about the damage from the great earthquake and the discoveries made during restoration.
The tour concluded near the old port, where we discussed Dubrovnik’s more recent history, including the war from 1991 to 1995.
Overall, it was a very informative and engaging tour. There were a few moments where I would have liked a bit more detail on specific architectural features (like the columns, capitals, or the statues of St. Blaise), but that’s a minor point.

Loved our tour with Vedran, was a great way to initiate ourselves in Dubrovnik. He was very good and told lots of great stories along the way. Maybe one part that was missing for me was covering the basics of Game Of Thrones and the city, could have been nice to point out the famous spots we passed, but apart from that it was a great tour.

Vedran is a very knowledgeable, competent and focused Tourguide. He has a lot of historical context knowledge and has no problems to add historic context if asked for.
Our group had 18 people and that felt very big and did not allow for a lot of interactivity. If anything, that would be the only improvement that we'd have wished for: a smaller group that would allow for a bit more interactive dialogues.

“Vedran speaks excellent English”
Vedran guided us through the entire old city and spoke fluent English. He could have provided some pictures that he could share to visualize the places out of Dubriovnik he mentioned in his tour. However, it is totally worth it, I totally recommend his tour!
