Join us and uncover Buki’s rich culture! Explore Cape Town’s history from its indigenous roots to Dutch settlement, learn about the journey from apartheid to democracy, and discover the stories of the local Islamic community.
The first stop will be Greenmarket Square, where we will do an introduction. Then we will stop in front of the Castle of Good Hope and talk about the different tribes that settled in Cape Town. Next, we will stop at District 6, where we will discuss forced removals. Then we stop at Church Square and talk about the arrival and abolition of slavery in Cape Town.
We will walk again and stop at Tuinhuise, which is the office of the President, and then enter the Company Gardens. After that, we will stop at the Race Classification Court and talk about the humiliation of the people of South Africa, as well as the beginning and end of apartheid.
Next, we will stop at St George's Cathedral and talk about Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Then we enter the Muslim community; the first stop is Nurul Islam Mosque. Afterwards, we stop in front of the first mosque, Awal Masjid.
Then we enter Bismillah Restaurant to taste koesisters, which are traditional Muslim doughnuts, and we visit Atlas Trading Company, which is the old spice shop. Finally, I will allow you to take photos in the colorful houses or in the vibrant Bo-Kaap.
