Everything you want to know about Romanian communism in one free tour. Almost 50 years of communism impacted Romania as a country and the life of its people. Our habits are still influenced by the communist inheritance, and you will clearly understand why after this free tour. Find out about the communist regime and its main leader Ceausescu, how he raised to power and how he was, finally, executed for crimes against his people. Bucharest of all cities was severely impacted by Ceausescu's decisions and his crazy dream to destroy the old city and build a new communist one, that also includes the huge Parliament building. You will have the chance to stop in a place where there was an entire neighborhood, fully demolished at the request of the glorious leader. The tour also takes you through all the struggles of the Romanian people, from lack of basic food, heat, lack of privacy and the fear to do anything else than the Party wanted.

We really enjoyed this free tour. The guide was excellent with perfect English. The stories and explanations about communism were very interesting and gave us a lot to think about. We were both very happy with the experience.
If I could suggest one small improvement, I would extend the walking part a little bit more, or make the stops more directly connected to the stories being told. For example, the park we visited was a good idea to illustrate how life under communism offered limited leisure options, but that stop could have been developed further.

A pesar de entender que su historia los lleva a “odiar” el comunismo, este recorrido reparte un discurso de odio y violencia contra ideologías de izquierda, que puede lastimar otras culturas, considerando por ejemplo que mi país vivió una dictadura fascista. Ambos extremos son malos, pero condenar de esa forma no está bien, se debería hacer un recorrido más objetivo, la misma guía reconoce no serlo.

This tour with Bogdan was very informative about communism and its effects on the country. You can tell he's very passionate and knowledgeable about the topic. I appreciated that he shared his live location to help with meeting up at the correct spot (not that it was difficult to find). And there is a short bathroom and beverage break around the 2 hour mark in the tour. Overall you get a lot of information about communism on this tour from a very knowledgeable guide and I recommend.

El pasado 6 de mayo de 2025 a las 17:00, tuvimos la oportunidad de participar en una Free Walking Tour sobre el comunismo en Rumanía, y fue sin duda uno de los momentos más interesantes de nuestro viaje a Bucarest.
Éramos un grupo pequeño, lo cual hizo que el recorrido fuera mucho más cercano y participativo. Nuestra guía, Maria, fue encantadora desde el primer momento: muy amable, atenta y con un gran sentido del humor. Supo crear un ambiente relajado en el que todos nos sentimos cómodos para preguntar y comentar.
Lo más destacable fue su excelente dominio del español y la forma clara y amena en la que explicó los aspectos más complejos de la historia comunista de Rumanía. Combinó datos históricos, anécdotas personales y reflexiones que nos ayudaron a entender mejor esta parte tan importante del pasado reciente del país.
A lo largo del recorrido, Maria mostró un equilibrio perfecto entre el rigor histórico y la cercanía personal. Fue una guía muy bien preparada, con pasión por lo que cuenta y una gran capacidad para conectar con su grupo.

Llegamos cinco minutos tarde (muy mal de nuestra parte) y María nos recibió con una gran sonrisa y ahí inició un juego. Luego comenzó a contarnos toda la historia del comunismo en Rumanía, puntualizando en Bucarest, en cada una de las paradas que realizamos. Nos fue guiando, compartiendo detalles y respondiendo a todas nuestras preguntas. Ella habla perfecto español y se la nota una apasionada de lo cuenta y de su país. Está sumamente preparada en cuanto a la historia. Hasta nos contó que había realizado su tesis de grado sobre estos temas. Más cerca del final, realizó otro juego y nos regaló un bombón a cada uno típico del comunismo. Realmente fue un placer realizar el tour con ella.
