What to see in Ibiza in 1 - 3 days?

If you want a destination where you can fully enjoy leisure and the sea, like nowhere else, that place is without a doubt Ibiza. The Balearic island is famous for its parties and nightlife, as well as its paradisiacal beaches and coves. The capital of the island, with the same name, is a unique corner where you can walk through history and enjoy shops and terraces overlooking the sea. You choose how to enjoy Ibiza: living its offer of discos and nightlife areas to the fullest, opting for more relaxing plans, or with a mix of both as we did.

Ibiza is known for its incredible sunsets in its hidden coves. It is the cradle of the hippie movement in Spain, and also of the "Ibicenco" style, which highlights the sun that bathes this island with the white color of the clothes. After our visit, Ibiza became an idyllic and highly recommended destination for us to enjoy a few days of vacation. A perfect option to enjoy and disconnect from the routine on this island bathed by the Mediterranean.

Why visit Ibiza?

If you have in mind spending a dream vacation on this Mediterranean island, you will like to know the essential places to visit in Ibiza.

Ibiza (Eivissa in Catalan) is part of the Balearic archipelago, together with Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera (and other small surrounding islands). Ibiza is not only the name of the island, but also of its capital.

It is the second most populated Balearic island and one of the best known internationally for tourism, thanks to the fame that it has been given as a meeting point for famous DJs, macro-distotheques and nightlife areas to enjoy all night.

Ibiza is also located very close to the Iberian Peninsula, just 79 km from Dénia, so it is fast and frequent to use the ferry from there to get there.

These are the essential places to see and visit in Ibiza in 3 days (or a weekend getaway). Aim!

10 essential places to see and do in Ibiza

1. The historic center of Dalt Vila

6059c6caa7e62500e.jpeg

The first thing you notice when you arrive in the city of Ibiza is the highest part of Dalt Vila, its historic center, which is made up of the monumental complex of its centuries-old walls, declared a World Heritage Site, its Castle, its Cathedral and others places of interest.

We recommend that you wear comfortable shoes to walk around Dalt Vila, since you can spend hours entertaining in its corners, visiting beautiful little shops, discovering its walls, museums and alleyways, or simply sitting down to have a drink on a terrace.

Its walls

We start by visiting its Renaissance wall and the bastions that make it up. Its location in the Mediterranean Sea made Ibiza, like other islands in the Balearic archipelago, a strategic port for shipping routes and a coveted site for pirates.

All this meant that the city of Ibiza was strongly walled since medieval times to defend its coasts, and that it was extended to the Renaissance structure that we can see today.

The walls that today surround the oldest area are declared a World Heritage Site. They have five entrances, although their main access is at the Portal de ses Taules, next to the Mercat Vell. During the tour of the fortification you can find Roman statues, a powder magazine, cannons... You will not be bored at all, both for what you will see along the way, and for the views you will have of the city and the sea from there.

We were visiting each bastion of the seven that it has, where in each one you will find different buildings and places of interest, such as museums and interpretation centers.

You will be able to take beautiful photographs from them and discover more closely the history of the city. While you walk through Dalt Vila you will fall in love with its cobbled streets and decorated in white and earth colors. An advice? Try going up to the Santa Lllúcia bastion at sunset to see a magical sunset from there.

2. The Neighborhood of the Navy

6059c6cab2d0e443c.jpeg

Continuing in Ibiza town, we recommend you take a walk through the neighborhood of the Navy, where you can start by going down from Dalt Vila and exiting towards the Mercat Vell.

Its beautiful streets of whitewashed houses make this neighborhood a place with a lot of charm.

Strolling you will find the old Mercat Vell, where you will have different stalls selling fruits, vegetables, flowers... Walking towards the port you will find the Obelisk of the Corsairs, one of the few symbols in the world that honors pirates. Curious, right?

From this last point you can walk along the port, sunbathing while you watch the pleasure boats, or look for a good little terrace where you can order some beers.

3. Dreamy beaches and coves

Ibiza is famous for its beaches and coves with turquoise water, accompanied by unique landscapes that will delight the most "instagramers" and some amazing sunsets.

Whether you like to spend hours sunbathing or prefer to be on the move, its beach offer is made for you. Relax in a sun lounger listening to the sea in the background, or lose yourself an entire morning in one of its small paradisiacal coves. If you prefer more movement, you can practice snorkeling, diving and kayaking, or even rent a boat and discover several of its coves. The aquatic leisure offer is very large!

We have compiled the beaches and coves that we liked the most on the island.

  • Figueretas Beach: in the same city of Ibiza we find this extensive beach and one of the most visited. It is an easily accessible beach that has sunbeds, umbrellas and public showers.
  • d'en Bossa Beach: one of the best beaches in Ibiza, where you can practice water sports and activities, and end the day having a drink in its places by the sea, such as Bora Bora.
  • Sa Caleta. Also known as Es Bol Nou, we really liked this tiny beach surrounded by pine trees and nature.
  • D'Hort Cove: located in San José, it is one of the most famous in Ibiza. It is in front of the famous Es Vedrá islet, and surrounded by cliffs and vegetation.
  • Salty Cove. In San Antoni you will find some of the most beautiful coves in Ibiza. One of our favorites is Salty Cove, with its white sand and blue waters.
  • Funny Cove and Moli Cove: other small coves in San Antoni with transparent waters, where you can enjoy a great day at the beach.
  • Ses Salines Beach: we really liked this large beach in the Ses Salines Natural Park to go with family or a group of friends. A unique and beautiful place, from where you can see the island of Formentera.

4. Cave of Can Marçà

If you go on an excursion to the north of the island, don't miss the opportunity to visit the Can Marçà cave, more than 100,000 years old, located on a cliff in Port de Sant Miquel. Inside we find a space full of mystery and natural beauty, with stalactites and stalagmites that create a mysterious and magical atmosphere. A very interesting excursion to go with the family.

5. Las Dalias Market

We could not visit Ibiza without going through one of its legendary hippie markets. Ibiza is famous for being a meeting point in the sixties for this well-known movement of "flower power", the music of Bob Marley and the craftsmanship of clothing and accessories.

Located in Sant Carles, the Las Dalias hippie market is one of the oldest as it is over 30 years old and brings together a large crowd of artisans with stalls of all kinds. It will only take you 20 minutes by car from Ibiza and you have easy parking in the area.

  Schedules

6. San Antoni

San Antoni de Portmany (or San Antonio Abad) is not only known for its impressive coves. Its offer of parties and nightlife also make it the second most visited city on the island.

We stayed there for a day to enjoy its beautiful beaches during the day and take the opportunity to party at night.

Something that caught our attention upon entering the city was the statue of the Egg of Columbus, quite original and striking, commemorating the discovery of America. We take the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding coves such as Funny Cove and Salty Cove. At sunset, we wanted to check what they had told us about the sunsets, the so-called “Sunset Strip”, from the famous coffee of the sea and we have to confirm that we loved it! You can sit in this famous venue and gawk at how the sun bathes the horizon in orange while you sip your favorite cocktail.

7. Ses Salines Natural Park

Relax in a unique environment surrounded by nature.

We loved taking advantage of an afternoon visiting the Ses Salines Natural Park, less than ten minutes from Ibiza. The Natural Park occupies both the land area where it is located, and the marine part up to Formentera, with more than 200 different species of animals and plants living there, where Posidonias stand out, a typical aquatic plant of the area.

We learned all this in its Interpretation Center, located in a small old church, and where admission is free.

8. The best sunset: Es Vedrà

They told us about Es Vedrà as one of the most magical sunsets and we were able to confirm why it has that title. Es Vedrà is an islet located a few kilometers from the coast of Cala d'Hort where the sunsets are admired and photographed almost daily.

It is said that the islet is located at a point with a lot of mystery and magnetism, which has led many to tell legends about it. For example, it is said that it was the place where the goddess Tanit was born, or that it was the home of the sirens that Odysseus encountered on his journey. It is also said that it was part of the lost city of Atlantis. When we heard those stories, and then we went to see the sunset in front of the islet, all that magic and power invaded us in a way that we couldn't explain. We highly recommend coming and checking it out for yourself.

9. Excursion to Formentera

6059c6cab8a2522fb.jpeg

If you have time to spare after discovering and enjoying Ibiza, we recommend that you take a boat for a short excursion to Formentera and spend at least one day there.

You can take a ferry from Ibiza and arrive at the port of La Savina, in Formentera, in less than an hour. When you arrive in Formentera we advise you to enjoy its beaches and coves, such as des Pujols, Sa Roqueta and Saona Cove.

We also recommend taking an excursion to the most southeastern part of the island and going up to the La Mola Lighthouse to contemplate its fabulous views. There we learn that this lighthouse is also known as "Jules Verne's lighthouse" because the writer talks about it in one of his novels.

In Formentera you will find a wide range of activities to enjoy the beach and nature. For example, we rent a kayak to navigate the blue waters of Saona Cove to La Savina.

logo_eat.jpgWhere to eat in Ibiza?

Ibizan gastronomy has a certain similarity in some aspects with that found in other Balearic islands, but it also has very special typical dishes that we loved to try. We give you some recommendations to taste the typical Ibizan dishes.

5 places to eat in Ibiza

  • San Juan bar food: we had been told about this place as a traditional place for homemade food. And everything was a hit! If you want to eat well and at a good price, in the center of Ibiza and near the port, we recommend that you stop by. We ordered a table of sausages, squid croquettes and a cuttlefish dish. All a success.
  • La Brasa Ibiza: if you want a more special lunch or dinner, we recommend you visit this grilled meat restaurant in the center of Ibiza. We really liked its beautiful patio (and we advise you, if it's not too cold, to ask for a table there). Both the rice and the meat are delicious!
  • The passengers: walking through the La Marina neighborhood we found this place with a lot of people inside, so we thought it must be quite good, and we weren't wrong! The waiters are very friendly, the place is simple, and we found the value for money fantastic. We advise you to try the ribs and the chicken milanesa.
  • Bar Can Bufi: in Ibiza we find this restaurant known for its roast meat sandwiches. You have to try them! In addition, they have a daily menu of homemade food at a very good price.
  • Can Pilot: in Sant Rafael, halfway between Ibiza and Sant Antoni, we find this homemade food restaurant where they serve you very well. It is famous for its meats, so we took the opportunity to try the sirloin and the chops. For dessert we ate one of the best flaó cakes. If you are going to pass through the area, take the opportunity to eat there.

4 typical dishes of Ibiza

  • Sofrit pagès: a delicious plate of meat (chicken, lamb, pork…) fried with potatoes, paprika, saffron and complemented with local sausages, such as sobrassada. It is perfect to regain strength after an intense day of activities.
  • Bullit and guisant de peix: how could it be otherwise on an island, fish dishes are quite famous around here, and we were able to try both the bullit and the guisat de pescado. These are dishes that you will find in many homemade food restaurants, where they cook fish and seafood with potatoes, garlic, onion and spices.
  • Flaó: the best we've tried. The flaó from Ibiza is similar to cheesecake, but made with milk from the island (typical goat's or sheep's milk). They also give it a special flavor with a bit of mint and sugar. If you eat it at home, much better!
  • Greixonera: another of the typical desserts of Ibiza is the Greixonera. It is a delicious pudding made with ensaimadas from a couple of days ago, soaked in milk, cinnamon and lemon. You can find it in homemade food restaurants and we assure you that if you have a sweet tooth, you will love it.

yoorney pets logo.pngPet-friendly Ibiza

Are you passionate about animals and looking for a different plan? A getaway with your pet is always a good idea. But surely you think, where can they enjoy to their heart's content?
Tourism and pet-friendly getaways have grown in Ibiza in recent years. More and more hotels, restaurants and attractions have hung the Pet Friendly sign on their doors. A getaway with your dog is one of the most unforgettable adventures you can have.
Ibiza is a very #petfriendly city and that is how we have experienced it. We have been able to do a lot of activities with our dogs!

Dog parks in Ibiza

Surely before traveling to Ibiza you are looking for plans where you can include your pet! One of them is being able to enjoy a dip with your best friend.
After our visit we consider that there are an insufficient number of dog beaches, considering that Ibiza has so many kilometers of coastline.
  • In the city of Ibiza we have a small dog beach, Es Viver, open all year round.
  • Santa Eulalia is one of the most beautiful towns in Ibiza, and also very pet-friendly, since we were able to verify that it has two beaches for dogs, as well as a dog park.

Restaurants in A to go with dogs

If you are looking for restaurants to enjoy a delicious lunch accompanied by your dog. Born is a cafeteria in the city of Ibiza where dogs are welcome. In addition, it is a perfect place to have a specialty coffee, natural juices or a vermouth. Another place in the capital of Ibiza where dogs can enter is Can Tina, a restaurant with a menu of the day and very tasty cannelloni.

Pet Friendly Hotels in Ibiza
This is one of the most important points when choosing a travel destination, there are more and more hotels that allow pets.

Accessible Ibiza

Adapted tourism is not a pending issue in Amsterdam.

We were able to experience it first hand and here are some of our favorite adapted and accessible sites:

  • Beaches: in Ibiza you will find several beaches prepared in an accessible way so that everyone can enjoy them. The beaches of Ses Figueretes and Talamanca are close to the urban center of the city and have access ramps, amphibious chair service and parking for the disabled.
  • Accessible buildings and tourist areas: The City Council offers Audio-Sign Guides to provide information on places of tourist interest in the city, such as the different bastions of the wall and museums. Some buildings of great interest, such as the Necropolis Museum, are only partially accessible, since the outer area of the necropolis is difficult to access for people in wheelchairs or with reduced mobility, but the interior of the museum has all its spaces adapted.

yoorney party 2.pngNocturnal Ibiza

Enjoy the night life of Ibiza. The city hides a multitude of corners with a special charm to have a good time in good company and where you can walk, have a drink and toast.

These are some of our favorite places to party in Ibiza!

Cocktails in Ibiza

To start enjoying our Ibizan night, nothing better than to start with a few cocktails. One of the places where we found good premises for it was in the Port of Ibiza. This area is always full of atmosphere. We really liked Coktal Bar Swami, near the port and with delicious drinks. We were also at the other end of the port, on Avinguda 8 d'agost, enjoying the unique space of Orso Ibiza, a restaurant and bar where you can both dine and enjoy delicious cocktails. You will love its decoration.

Also, if you are in Sant Antoni you can go to the Golden Buddha or the Bamboo Bar to enjoy your favorite cocktails by the sea.

Live music in Ibiza

If your favorite music is house or techno, you're in luck, because in most of the clubs in Ibiza you can enjoy great DJs playing live.

For other types of music, we discovered charming places like the Malanga Cafe, in the La Marina neighborhood, a place where you can have a drink with a great and lively atmosphere. At the Hotel Santos Ibiza, on Playa d'en Bossa, they told us about the indie music concerts they organize periodically: the Dorado Live Show. We also really liked Ibiza Rocks in Sant Antoni, with a wide range of rock, indie, rap bands...

Ibiza nightclubs

Ibiza has the best-known clubs in the country, and the most awarded. They are undoubtedly one of the main attractions of the island.

  • Pacha Ibiza: the best known on the island, where it has been installed since the seventies. Its parties with the renowned DJ David Guetta are very famous. They also organize other hippie-themed parties and receive different DJs from all over the world every year. It's hard not to want to miss the chance to stop by while in Ibiza.
  • Amnesia: another of the best known, with two huge rooms, go-go dancers and epic parties. This nightclub has been a winner of the Best Global Club award for several years. Its Foam Festival is one of the most famous, so we encourage you to enjoy it if it coincides with your visit. Check their calendar of events and get your ticket in time.
  • Ushuaia Beach Hotel: a prestigious nightclub where you can enjoy the night around its large pool. Paris Hilton and Naomi Campbell are said to have been in here. This hotel-disco is located on Playa d'en Bossa and combines both the enjoyment of the beach club in the morning and its parties at night. A young and casual atmosphere that will make your night a unique experience.
