According to scientists, a long time ago here was the ancient city. Some historians believe that this Tower was built in the 9th century, while others claim that it appeared even earlier – in the middle of the 8th century. In 1219 Mongols captured Balasagun but did not destroy it but did destroy the areas surrounding it. It is believed that the city fell into decay after the plague and then disappearing not long after Clay city buildings were destroyed, so for hundreds of years the city was level with the land. At the beginning of the twentieth century, only Burana Tower remained from the ancient city. During 1927-1928, measures were taken to preserve this historical monument, and in the 1970s complete reconstruction of the tower was carried out.
