Discover the best of Basque Country on this unique cross-border tour. Explore the pepper-famous village of Espelette, picturesque Ainhoa, and the legendary, mystical caves of Zugarramurdi in Spain. A perfect blend of culture, history, and charm!
Discover the best of the Basque borderlands with our day trip to Espelette, Ainhoa, and the Zugarramurdi Caves from Biarritz or Bayonne.
Our first stop is Espelette, a charming French village world-famous for its iconic chili pepper, celebrated every October during the Pepper Festival, as well as for its traditional architecture, lively historic center, and characteristic red façades that decorate its houses.
We then continue to Ainhoa, considered one of the most beautiful villages in the French Basque Country, where we enjoy a guided visit to its church, main street, and town hall, discovering its authentic and well-preserved traditional charm.
Next, we cross the border into Spain to visit the legendary Zugarramurdi Caves, a fascinating karstic site shaped by water erosion over time. Known for its myths of witches’ gatherings and ancient rituals, this unique natural space blends geology, history, and legend, and is also linked to the famous Baztán literary trilogy.
We return at approximately 14:30 to the original departure point after a memorable excursion combining French and Spanish Basque culture, scenic landscapes, and centuries-old traditions on both sides of the border.
