Join our guided tour of Bayonne, a city full of history and charm. From the Tourist Office, we will explore the main points of interest, where medieval heritage, Basque traditions, and key historical moments merge. We will begin at the Memorial to the Dead, erected in honor of those who fell in World War I.
Next, we will head to the Château Vieux, a Roman fortress that has witnessed centuries of military history. We will visit Saint Mary's Cathedral, with its impressive Gothic architecture and valuable relics, before strolling along Rue Port Neuf, known as the "chocolate street," where Sephardic Jews introduced cacao to the region in the 18th century.
We will explore the Bayonne City Hall, a beautiful neoclassical building, and Saint Andrew's Church, a gem of neogothic architecture. From Saint-Esprit Bridge, we will enjoy views of the Bayonne Citadel, and continue to Château-Neuf, a medieval castle now home to a university. The tour will conclude at the Les Halles Market, where you can sample local products, including the famous Basque cake.
